British Rail BAA/BAB 40ft Bogie Steel Wagon British Rail Railfreight Metals Sector 900205

The British Rail BAA/BAB bogie steel carrying wagons, introduced in the 1970s, were a significant advancement in railway freight technology. Designed to transport heavy steel loads, over 300 wagons were built with modern FBT6 bogies and sturdy ends. The BAA wagons, fitted for air brake operation, and the BAB variant, equipped with a through vacuum pipe, were capable of carrying loads up to 77.5 tonnes. While initially used for a variety of steel products, many were later modified for steel coil traffic, with many remaining in service today. These wagons marked a departure from previous designs, offering improved efficiency and versatility in steel transportation.
